"We are glad to be weak if it means that you are strong. Our ambition for
you is true Christian maturity." - 2 Cor. 13 (NTME)
Hello friends,
We had a good trip last week to Idaho to visit our daughter & son-in-law. I
hope your summer is filled with God.
Sunday we'll be focusing on our Triune God, the Lord of all creation, the
origin & source of community. To prepare your heart, spend some time with--
* Genesis 1.1-31 (spend some time savoring it)
* Genesis 2.18-24
* John 17.20-23
Sunday classes resume, so come-on back! (Joy...Grace
(Lucado)...Belonging...Doubts + Kids SS)
JobNET Breakfast Kickoff - BSLC will host the first official JobNET program
tomorrow, Thursday from 8AM - 10AM. If you are unemployed or know of
someone who is unemployed you will not want to miss this Program. To sign up
and for more information Please call Sean P. Harlow at the Church Office.
Have you heard? The Defense of Marriage Amendment WILL appear on the
November Ballot in Oregon. A whopping 244,587 signatures were turned in to
the Secretary of State. In less than 40 days all records for the collection
of signatures was broken! But right now, it's important to contact our U.S.
Senators regarding the Federal Marriage Amendment. Sen. Gordon Smith
supports it; you could thank & encourage him at 503.326.3386. Sen. Ron
Wyden opposes it; let his office know your thoughts at 202.224.5244
(Washington D.C.) or 503.326.7525.
Fun & Friends approacheth! Your help is appreciated. Sign up this Sunday.
Invite kids from your neighborhood. Curt Carpenter & I could use more 2
liter bottles for our (almost) famous water rocket blast. (Bottles can be
placed in the cloak room area of the church foyer.)
Here are some thoughts on Christian Community from Lutheran pastor,
theologian, and martyr, Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) from his neat little
book Life Together:
"Christianity means community through Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ. No
Christian community is more or less than this. Whether it be a brief,
single encounter or the daily fellowship of years, Christian community is
only this. We belong to one another only through and in Jesus Christ. What
does this mean? It means, first, that a Christian needs others because of
Jesus Christ. It means, second, that a Christian comes to others only
through Jesus Christ. It means, third, that in Jesus Christ we have been
chosen from eternity, accepted in time, and united for eternity."
Yours in Jesus Christ,
Pastor Mark
