"May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance."
2 Thess. 3:5
Dear ones,
Fun & Friends 2004 is cooking along. Today there was a whopping 401
registered! Please be praying for a corresponding spiritual impact on the
unchurched who are in our midst. Free Bar-B-Q is Friday evening; if you
want to help make it happen, just show up anytime from the afternoon on &
offer your services; help is especially appreciated for the clean-up
afterwards-a great opportunity to serve. (Incidentally, on Sunday, August 8,
at 9:45 there'll be a recap of Fun & Friends in the sanctuary, featuring the
skits, songs, & slides of the week.)
Check out these readings for Sunday as we continue to explore Christian
Community:
* 1 Cor. 12:14-23
* Acts 9:36-42
* John 20:19-28
Holy Communion will be celebrated in both services.
Sunday School classes take a hiatus during August. Classes resume on
Sunday, September 12. (These weeks afford a great opportunity for some
fellowship time betwixt and after worship services.)
Church Picnic is happening Sunday, August 8 at North Clackamas Park.
You're invited to help make it happen (food prep, set-up, or clean-up) & can
do so by contacting Louise Robinson at 503-654-6420 or at onewheezie at aol.com
<mailto:onewheezie at aol.com> .
FYI...the Pastorgr at m <mailto:Pastorgr at m> guy will be out of the office for
a couple of weeks.
A little something for your heart from Lloyd Ogilvie as he comments on one
of Jesus' Beatitudes:
"How could it be blessed to mourn? The two realities seem antithetical.
'Blessed' in Jesus' use of the word means to be truly happy-not the fleeting
happiness of having everything go our way. It is the sublime happiness of
being in fellowship with Him, and being filled with His Spirit. True
blessedness is being in touch with the heart of God, to feel what He feels,
to delight in what He delights in, and also to be disturbed by what disturbs
Him. He loves us so much that anything which separates us from Him or
others is of grave concern to Him. He mourns when we hurt ourselves or
others. The cross is a constant reminder of how deeply He loves us and how
profoundly He cares. Golgotha is the mourning of God. Our sin breaks God's
heart. When we mourn, we feel the pulsebeat of that loving, forgiving
heart. Jesus' meaning of mourning is more than grief at the loss of a loved
one. It encompasses deep sorrow for our sins. Jesus knew that if we ever
caught a glimpse of what our sin does to God, we would mourn with Him."
>From God's Best for My Life
Yours in Christ's love,
Pastor Mark
"Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every
way. The Lord be with all of you."
