"O most merciful redeemer, friend, and brother, may we know Thee more
clearly, love Thee more dearly, and follow Thee more nearly, day by day.
Amen." - A prayer by Richard of Chichester (13th century)
Hello friends,
Sunday we begin a new 5 week sermon series on prayer. To help prepare your
heart, you could look at:
* Matthew 7:7-11
* 2 Cor. 12:7-10
* James 4:1-4
* It also happens to be Pentecost Sunday, the "birthday" of the
Church.
* Remember: due to it being Memorial Day weekend, there will be no
Sunday School classes. They resume 6/6.
Also Sunday you'll be able to
* Register to vote, if you haven't already or if you've recently
moved.
* Sign the "Defense of Marriage" petition.
* If you'd like to help with this process, please let me know. I
could use a few more people to help with the gathering of signatures. (I'll
be providing instructions in the Fellowship Room at 8:00 am Sunday.)
John & Trish Rondema asked me for leads on anyone who might have a vehicle
they could use for any (or all) of the time while they're back in country
from China, July 1 - August 16. If you can help, or have ideas, please reply
to me or call the church office. Thanks!
The Social Concerns Team (under Mike Morrison's leadership) is exploring
the idea of BSLC sponsoring an immigrant family who will be entering the
States in the near future. (Welcoming them & helping them get settled, in
conjunction with Lutheran Community Services.) If this is a project (and
it's a big one!) that you'd be willing to put some effort into, let me know.
(No obligation; we're just trying to find out at this point if there's
enough interest in our midst to pull it off.) Also: if you have training
in, or experience in, ESL (teaching English as a Second Language), I'd be
interested in knowing that, too.
Something for your heart:
"Why are we not naturally conformed to God's love? Our appetites have been
misdirected, leading us to believe that there is a contradiction between
God's glory and our own happiness, that we cannot submit our lives to God
and still have what we really want. The 'original sin' is not primarily
that man 'disobeyed' God; the sin is that he ceased to be hungry for God and
God alone." - David Fagerberg
Hungry,
Pastor Mark
