"May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance."
2 Thess. 3.5

Hello friends in Christ,

Wow-what a serendipitous event the Harvest Festival was! Thanks & kudos to
the many who worked so hard to make it happen! Lotsa unchurched guests,too!

As Sunday approaches, take time to visit these Scripture readings. We'll be
beginning a new 4-week series on our church's vision.
* Isa. 43.1...
* Matt. 22.34-40...God defines His agenda in the world.
* Rom. 12.1-8...We offer ourselves for God's agenda.

+Also Sunday, you're invited to the Fall Prayer Luncheon from 12:30-2:00,
featuring a talk by John Kimsey. Email your intent to attend to
migman1 at xprt.net.

+Also Sunday, you'll hear how to be involved with Operation Christmas Child
(in which you or your household fill a shoe box with nice little things for
kids around the world)-a great activity for families!

Don't forget to put the Michael Allen Harrison Concert on your calendar;
it'll be Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7 pm. The $15 suggested donation benefits the
Daybreak Shelters for the Homeless.

Thanksgiving stuff:
* Worship will be Wednesday evening (the 24th) at 7 pm.
* Men's Breakfast will be Thursday morning (the 25th). Cost is $7. Sign up
Sunday.

I liked the following from Rev. Dale Meyer:

The fallout is guaranteed to continue but the voting is over. We have not
elected a savior to any office in this land, be that to the Oval Office or
to the seats of your local government. What we have done is elect
fallible men and women who need both our prayers and our vigilant
attention. Let us hope that all the newly-elected pause to reflect the
trust laid on them and then agree with David who said, "I am this day
weak, though anointed king." (2 Samuel 3:39)
In retrospect this long and wearisome campaign should have made us keenly
aware of the contrast, the clear contrast, between the gentle and good
rule of God's Spirit in our hearts... "Come unto Me and I will give you
rest..." and the ultimate shallowness of political promises and programs,
even from the best of people. The poet reads the contrast right:
"Trust not in rulers, they are but mortal;
Earthborn they are and soon decay.
Vain are their counsels at life's last portal,
When the dark grave engulfs its prey.
Since mortals can no help afford,
Place all your trust in Christ, our Lord.
Alleluia, alleluia" (Lutheran Worship 445, 2)
