Dear family,
It has been challenging to find the time but rewarding to look through the
ministry fair catalog. It has hit me in a few different ways.
* As I look at all of the opportunities available in the church and
think of this as our 50th anniversary year I am struck by the 1000's of
unsung servants who have filled those roles over the last 50 years. Their
service was not for riches or for recognition but out of a deep devotion to
Jesus Christ. I am honored to be a part of that tradition.
* There are a lot of these roles that I really could not do well. I
am so glad that I am not alone in this ministry.
* Finally I thought about the impact of all of those ministries both
within the church and outside. I think that makes Jesus smile.
I hope that you are as excited about the ministry fair as I am. I've
narrowed down my desire to serve with the poor to a few options and I am
excited to talk with them at the fair.
In the midst of the busy-ness of the 40 Days of Purpose please don't forget
to love your neighbors through the collection of change in the baby bottle
for the Pregnancy Resource Center or the support of the senior high 30 hour
Famine (remember these donations will be matched 7 times).
In my devotions this week I have found my way to 2 Timothy. In chapter 3
Paul tells Timothy about the evils of the last days. He records that people
will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, .lovers of pleasure. I have
Matthew 22.37-39 on the brain (the commands to love God and love our
neighbor) so I was struck by the contrast of loves. It seems that we will
always love something, the question is "Is it the right thing?" This is not
a one time question for me as I struggle to walk in obedience to Christ it
is a daily, hourly, even minute-by-minute question - "What am I loving right
now with my thoughts, actions, time?" I thank God that He never fails to
forgive and that he moves me to love the right things.
Pastor Pete
