Family of Beautiful Savior,
As the 40 days nears its midpoint it can be tempting to lose steam and let
the pressures of life take over. It happens in my life. I haven't read
each day on that day and have had to catch up a few times. But I was
encouraged by Paul's words to Timothy, " Train yourself to be godly. For
physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things,
holding promise for both the present life and the life to come." 1 Timothy
4.7-8 The secret to both physical training and spiritual training is
consistency. A diet doesn't help much if you only use it two days a week,
exercise every other week will also have little impact. Will you struggle
with me to be consistent in training ourselves in godliness?
We have some exciting 40 Days events coming up. This Sunday you can pick up
your copy of the Ministry Fair booklet. It is 39 pages of opportunities to
serve both within BSLC and in our community. On Sunday February 6th we will
have a Ministry Fair between services so that you can talk to people and
learn more about volunteer opportunities. The week after we will have a
Mission Fair which will educate and inform about Mission organizations which
BSLC supports and provide more opportunities for involvement.
Celebration Sunday is February 20th. We will conclude the 40 Days and
recognize our 50th anniversary with a celebration service. We will only
have one service that Sunday with no Sunday school for adults or kids. (You
only turn 50 once so it's worth a little change in schedule.) The service
that day will be from 9:30-11:30 with a special reception following. We are
excited about the service and we are currently working on a special guest
speaker. Stay tuned for details.
How would you like to septuple your income? (That is multiply it 7 times!)
Well I can't do it with your paycheck but I can do it with your donation.
The senior high youth are once again fasting for 30 hours on February 25 &
26 (30 Hour Famine with World Vision) to understand world hunger and raise
funds to make a difference. $360 cares for a child for a year. The Senior
High goal is to raise $4,000, with the matching funds made available by
World Vision this could increase to $28,000 which would feed and care for 75
children for one year. Do you want to literally change a village this year?
The funds will support efforts in Peru and areas affected by the tsunami.
There will be students at a table in the lobby between services collecting
donations Jan 30th, & Feb 13th.
