Dear St. Monica School Families,
Many of you have asked how to talk to your children about what is happening
during this difficult time for the St. Monica Parish community.
I would like to direct you to some resources that may be of help.
There are display racks in the school office as well as the "temporary"
vestibule area between the Family Center and GYM/Church that have some
printed materials regarding the newly expanded and updated "Safe
Environment" Program being implemented by the Archdiocese of Seattle.
These displays have been in place since mid-May when administrators for all
Archdiocesan parishes and schools took part in an updated training.
All clergy participated as well as all school principals and various other
parish leaders. More training is slated to continue in fall, 2007.
Included in this display rack is a Newspaper Brochure outlining the plans
for this expanded program as well as several pamphlets. The pamphlets
available are:
1) A.C.T. For Your Kids = A brochure put out by the King County Sexual
Assault Resource Center. They have a toll free 24 hr. Sexual Assault
Resource Line at 888-99-VOICE and the website is www.KCSARC.org
2) Reporting Suspected Abuse or Neglect of Minors and Vulnerable Adults = A
brochure put out by the Safe Environment Program of the Archdiocese of
Seattle. The Archdiocesan Hotline is: 1-800-446-7762 and the website is
www.seattlearch.org
3) Sexual Assault Resource Centers in the Archdiocese of Seattle = A
brochure put out by the Safe Environment Program of the Archdiocese of
Seattle which includes resources for assistance for issues involving sexual
abuse.
*** One that may be of help in dealing with talking to your children is the
Children's Response Center Resource Line: 425-688-5130 (Bellevue
location)
4) Five Things You Can Do = A double-sided information card for parents put
out by the Safe Environment Program of the Archdiocese of Seattle.
I hope that this information is helpful and I will continue to direct you to
more resources as they become available. As wise parents, I know you will
also pray for guidance and strength as you talk to your children about these
sensitive issues.
I'd also like to express my thanks for the many emails and phone calls of
support for myself and our school faculty and parish staff. Your confidence
and prayers are greatly appreciated.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance to you or
your family in any way.
God bless,
Pam Dellino
Principal
St. Monica School
